Isn't it exciting to see tomatoes turning color?
We all deserve to see beautiful tomatoes beginning to ripen after last year's disastrous (non) tomato season. Yours look terrific. -Jean
It is intoxicating to see the first tomatoes ripen! I have one that is breaking color and I can hardly quit checking on it. :D You would think after all these years of gardening that it would not be a big deal - but it is!
That's beautiful! How long is it supposed to take from when a tomato reaches its full size until it starts to ripen? My tomatoes seem to be holding their size steady, but there's no hint of red anywhere!
Good for you! It won't be long now...
That is so exciting when the tomatoes start turning!!!! Mine are starting to blush out too! Seems early for here in Wyoming tho... but it is getting closer to August!Congratulations!!! Can't wait to see your beautiful harvested tomatoes in the near future!
Meemsnyc: I was elated to see red. It happened during the day because I checked all the tomatoes carefully in the morning.Jean: What a difference a year makes! I just looked back at last year. Late Blight struck my garden the first week of August last year. I didn’t have any tomatoes turning red at that time. Probably because of the varieties planted and the awful rain and cool summer.KitsapFG: It is very exciting! I’d been checking them every day, but this one snuck up on me and I spotted it from across the garden while I was weeding the melon patch.Thyme2garden: I don’t know how long it takes for tomatoes to ripen…it seems too long when you are waiting for the first ones….kind of like a watched pot never boils scenario. EG: Thanks! I can’t wait!Toni: It’s so strange to be waiting for that first ripe tomato. I want to savor that feeling right not because I know in a few weeks it will be difficult to keep up with picking all the ripe tomatoes.
aren't you just giddy? i spotted our first tomato blush yesterday. after losing all my tomatoes to the late blight last year, i'm extra excited for this year's harvest.
