New members of Mike the Gardner's Seeds of the Month Club should keep an eye on their mailboxes. The first round of seeds from the Black Friday/Cyber Monday special were mailed out on Thursday from New Jersey and some members have received theirs already.
You may find it helpful to write the year on your seed envelopes when they arrive so you know how old they are once they are mixed in among your other seeds. Since the envelopes are packaged individually, they are not stamped with a date like some larger seed companies.
I hope you enjoy your seed surprises as much as I do.

How do you keep up with all the seeds? I find myself in seed glut pretty easily. The only ones that seem to lose potency are lettuce. . .
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about the sale! I just received my first seeds and wish I could plant them now. And that's a great idea to date the seeds. I think it's seed organizing time!
ReplyDeleteStefaneener: I keep all my seeds sorted and organized. I try to use oldest first, but I may find I need to do a seed givaway eventually.
ReplyDeleteJulie: I am so happy that you were able to take advantage of the sale. Enjoy your seeds :)
This is reminding me that I am way overdue to get started on my annual seed inventory and sorting process. I toss out almost empty or excessively old items, organize the keepers to be used, and then make a list of what I honestly need to purchase for the coming year. I never stick to just those items though and end up with multiples of certain items. Seeds are addictive.
ReplyDeleteLaura: Seeds ARE addictive! I still need to make a list of what I would like to grow next year and plot out the garden beds. I usually do this after the holidays. I don't think I will need to purchase many seeds this year.
ReplyDeleteI was soooo excited when my first package of seeds came!!! Thanks again for pointing out this great deal, a friend and I both signed up. This will be a great addition to my current seed library!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Rachel! I did notice that the seeds did not have a date on them. I added them to my spreadsheet and will date them before I put them away.
ReplyDeleteFred: I am so glad you are pleased with the Seeds of the Month Club. It is fun to be surprised each month.
ReplyDeleteRobin: The seeds seem to add up quickly and I found it is easier to date them right away.
This post is really making me excited for spring to roll around... and it is only December! Bah.
ReplyDeletePrairie Cat: I too am eager for seed starting to begin. I want to grow something.
ReplyDeleteWe got our first bunch of seeds too! I can't wait to plant them! Some I can do right away and then transfer to the cold frame later this winter.
ReplyDeleteI've been debating whether or not to join the club. I can see how it would encourage you to grow new veggies. Decisions, decisions.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to "stop-by" and wish you and yours a Happy Holiday Season. May your 2012 garden be bountiful!
