It begins…

The seed starting area has been organized, trays cleaned, and the first seeds sown last weekend. My Fedco seed order arrived today:

Onion seeds were the first to be scattered over moist seed starting mix and gently watered. Within days they began to sprout.

Now the growing season of 2013 officially begins. I welcome the first bit green growth, the smell of soil, and the promise of fresh food to come.

  1. Year after year the first signs of green are so welcoming and fascinating to me. What wonders natures holds....to see a little seed grow in to a plant that can provide so much food!

Happy beginning of the growing season!

    1. I agree, Robin! No matter how many times I plant a seed, I am still amazed when it sprouts and grows.

  2. You have a head start on me. I have my shelves up, but still need to round up my warming lights as well as a couple more shop lights, wash all my trays and prep my containers. I'm getting close, though :-)

    1. I am actually a little late this year. Usually I like to start some herbs under the lights in January. I miss fresh herbs.

  3. Nice start. I planted all my tomatos and eggplants already.

    1. You are a bit ahead of me. The garden is still covered in snow. I don't start my tomatoes and eggplant until the end of March. They are transplanted to the garden at the end of May.

  4. I've got my onions in too. Nothing else yet, but at least those.
