Harvest Monday: June 24, 2013

Each Monday, Daphne’s Dandelions hosts “Harvest Monday” where everyone can share links to their harvest for the week. It’s fun to see what everyone is gathering from his or her gardens in different areas.

It is all about the greens again this week in the garden spot, but I am not complaining as I know that it will only be a matter of time before the rest of the spinach bolts, and the lettuce turns bitter as a result of hot temperatures.

Mixed Lettuce and Spinach

Kale

Mixed Lettuce

Be sure to visit Daphne’s Dandelions to see what others are harvesting this week.

  1. You are still getting some great looking greens. Mine are pretty much done!

    1. I think this will be the last week for the spinach. We've had some hot temperatures and it looks like it is ready to bolt.

  2. That first picture of the bowl of spinach and lettuce leaves is just beautiful. It looks like something that should be gracing the cover of Organic Magazine (or something similar) - yum! The only kale we have in the garden at the moment is the tree kale. I did a huge harvest/pruning of it this weekend as it was getting so big that they were pulling down their supports, but since it was mature (hence a little tougher) leaves - I gave the harvest to the hens.

    1. Thanks! I love how the colors look together. I think the kale will provide a few more harvests before it is finished.

  3. What a great harvest, I have to admit to being a little jealous, we just moved to a new home and got our garden started late, so no spring greens for us this year. :(

    1. I am sure you will make up for it with your summer and fall garden. I am looking forward to reading about the progress.

  4. It's nice to see we're not the only ones with just greens to show! We did the same thing, a hard harvest of greens before the heat gets to them...

    1. Yes, I really did clip almost all the leaves that I could anticipating that they won't make it through our hot temperatures.

  5. The lettuce looks so wonderful. My lettuce is bolting right now. But I'm letting it as I want to save seed.

    1. This lettuce was planted late and seems to be holding on for now. The remaining spinach is bolting and will need to be pulled this week. I am seeding more chard in its place.

  6. What lovely fresh greens you have! Mine are all gone now except the hearts of romaine that are in the fridge.

  7. Your spinach is still looking great. Mine rotted with all the rain.

    1. Sadly, that was the last of the spinach. We've had some hot weather and it has turned bitter and is beginning to bolt. Hopefully, I will remember to plant more this fall. The spring planting didn't produce enough to satisfy us.

  8. I'm with Laura - that first bowl of greens is a work of art! The greens are almost gone here, just a little lettuce hanging on.

    1. I was hoping that a trellis of pole beans would help shade the greens bed, but by the time they begin climbing the trellis, the greens will be long gone.

  9. Lovely lettuce! I always miss lettuce in the summer. There will be plenty of veggies in the garden, but all I will want is a salad of greens. I didn't get many greens planted this spring because of moving, so yours look very tempting!

    1. It is really a shame that we don't have lettuce and tomatoes ready at the same time.

  10. Nice. It's great to see the lettuce, even if it's from the view of my monitor instead of in real life. LOL.
